Google (and many other) email providers don't support older authentication methods used by older versions of Email programs, such as Outlook, Thunderbird, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc. You may be able to get them to work by enabling 2nd factor authentication on your account, and then create an App Specific Password which is only used by your email program to check email.
Ensure 2nd factor authentication is turned on first, then go to this page: https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords If you are logged into multiple Google accounts, this really only works for the first one (U0). You can try in an incognito window, or you can search in "Search Google Account" for "App Password". This will only find it if it is an option for your account. More details can be found here: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en If you get the error message "The setting you are looking for is not available for your account." you first need to: Disable Insecure App if it is enabled. Enable 2 factor authentication. | |
