Computer SoftwareOther Programs Solatech Updated May 20 2025
Below are the instructions for moving 4.2 Solatech software to a new Roaming Workstation. This process is broken up into four steps: Backup your current company database, install Solatech on the new computer, perform a company sync and restore your company database. If using a new computer, prior to starting, you will need to make sure all Windows updates are installed.

Step 1: Backup Your Current Database

From within Solatech, go to File>Other Company Functions
Select "Backup"
Select the third option, to backup the active company database, product files, reports and all other data files.
Click the "Save As" button to select a location to save the backup file, and enter a name.
Click "Save"
Click "Start". You will receive notification when the backup is completed.
Copy the backup file you just created to a flash drive or other external drive. You will need it in step 4.

Step 2: Install Solatech on the new computer

Download and install the software here: https://support.solatech.com/download/solatech-window-covering-software-4-2-2/
When installation of the software is complete, navigate to www.solatech.com/downloads/SDC42b.exe Download and install this update.
When installation is complete, download and install Microsoft SQL Server.
To do this, follow the instructions in the following knowledge base article (please complete this step before moving on to step 2d.)

During the installation of Solatech Window Covering Software, you will need to enter your CD Key.
When the installation is complete, open Solatech
Before you create your new company, go to File>File Manager
Click each of the links in the lower left hand corner or File Manager;
"Share the Root Data Folder" and "Set Security for Required Folders".
Go to File>New Company, and enter the name of your company. This can be any name of your choice.
Then click the Advanced button and make sure the connection properties are filled in correctly. They should be [Name of Computer]\[Name of SQL Server]
It should be set to SQL server authentication
Enter the username "sa" and the password you created when installing the SQL server.
Click ok to open the company.
Once the company is open you will also need to activate via the internet when prompted.
You will now need to map a drive to the main computer. To do this open your file explorer and click on Network.
If you don’t see anything you will be asked to share, say yes.
If you still don’t see the main computer name show up, then go to the address bar in File manager and type \\[name of main computer]
Once you see the main computer name, right click on "This PC" and choose Map Network Drive.
Choose the Main computer.
You may be asked for username and password. Just put in the username and password used to log in to the main computer.
Once it is mapped, proceed to step 3.

Step 3: Perform a company sync

Open the company in your software.
When the company opens, you will be prompted for a sync location.
Find your mapped main computer and select it.
Then go to C:>
You will select the Main Company from within that folder.
When the sync has completed and the company opens, proceed to step 4.
The complete setup guide for Solatech is located here: https://support.solatech.com/download/swcs-4-2-setup-guide/ if you need it for reference. Depending on your Network Type, there are different sharing and security protocols which may need to be setup in order for the Roaming Workstation and Main System to synchronize properly.

b. Go to File>Other Company Functions>Restore

c. Select the backup file from its saved location.

d. Place a check mark beside each of the items in the "What do you want to restore" list
