Freezing your Credit basically makes it so nobody (or business) can do a credit lookup with your information. If you are going to apply for something that needs your credit, such as buying a car, you find out what credit agency the loan place uses (such as Equifax), and then login to your account on Equifax and ask them to unfreeze your credit for a short time, say 48 hours. Once that time is up then your credit is frozen again, and it was never unfrozen on the other credit agencies.
Cyberhoot has a good guide for identity theft and credit freezing https://cyberhoot.com/cybrary/identity-theft/ I recommend you freeze your credit at all four credit agencies listed below.
