This allows you to boot into Safe Mode, which disables Windows Defender, which will otherwise catch this trick. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings. Select Restart. Choose the fourth option, Enable Safe Mode. It should now boot into Safe Mode, so Windows Defender doesn't undo the file change.
