Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 Microsoft Outlook is Pausing, Crashing, or Freezing Updated January 16 2025
The interesting thing about ScanPST.exe is it does a good job, however it often doesn't fix everything at once, and you may need to run it 2, 5, or even 10 times in a row on the same file before it fixes all issues.

Try running ScanPST.exe, which may be located here:
Copy to Clipboard C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\scanpst.exe

If you need to find ScanPST, you can run one of these commands. The top one for 64-bit Office, and the bottom for 32-bit office
Copy to Clipboard dir "C:\program files\scanpst.exe" /a /s dir "C:\program files (x86)\scanpst.exe" /a /s

When you run ScanPST, it will scan the PST or OST file for corruption. It will report back if any errors, inconsistencies, or no issues were found. If anything was found, it will have a checkbox to make a backup, if you leave that checked then it will copy the file to the backup file before attempting repairs.
