Data Storage - Hard Drives / Solid State Drives (SSD) / Flash Memory Wipe / Erase Updated January 14 2025
Erasing from within Windows
Wipe free hard drive space, run this from an Admin Command Prompt:
Copy to Clipboardcipher /w:c:

If the drive is a SSD, performing a retrim on it can do a fairly good wipe on it. If the firmware on the SSD works properly, this will make the data not recoverable without removing the memory chips to read them manually.
Copy to ClipboardOptimize-Volume -DriveLetter C -retrim -verbose
